Since April 2021, Taiwan has campaigned their commitment to reach Net-Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050. Taiwan has joined resolutions with countries around the world in response to the ongoing global warming issues. Intending to support the Taiwan’s commitment, the Kaohsiung City Government, the Smart City Industry Alliance (TSSA), and the Taipei Computer Association (TCA) organized the 2024 Smart City Summit & Expo.

The 2024 Smart City Summit & Expo is a professional exhibition focused on Internet of Things (IoT) solutions held in Kaohsiung Exhibition Center from March 21-23, 2024. Over 300 foreign guests and participants from 16 different nations and regions attended this year's session. The forum facilitates communication between industry and cities, offering a global platform for collaboration and exchange for the advancement of smart city development. The Smart Manufacturing, Low-Carbon Transportation, Smart Agriculture and Fisheries, Smart Governance, 5GAIoT, and Startup Incubation will all be showcased during the event.

During the opening speech, the Kaohsiung City Government emphasized the need of awareness regarding the ever-present global warming issues as well as the need of actions to be taken to preserve the earth for the next generation. Thus, this forum is organized for companies to showcase their solutions and participate in on-site visits to local smart applications, providing an international exchange and cooperation platform for the development of smart cities. He also stated that since 2021, Taiwan has reduced around 30% of emissions and will strive further for carbon reduction by implementing more green regulation among companies.

In this event, the Indonesian Economic and Trade to Taipei (IETO Taipei) had the opportunity to participate as well and networked with companies, both domestic and international. It is hoped that through this forum, Indonesia may be able to express its commitment to join the rest of the world in managing global crisis as well as finding potential investors having interest to invest in green projects in Indonesia.
