By Alsina Betha

The Taiwanese government is investing in 10 overseas bases and an initiative for international student recruitment. The Ministry of Education has tasked three universities in Jakarta and Surabaya.

In line with the Taiwanese government's commitment to invest 5.2 billion New Taiwan Dollars over the next five years in establishing 10 overseas bases (International Talent Circulation Base) across various countries, and to implement the "International Student Recruitment and Retention Initiative in Taiwan," the Ministry of Education has taken significant steps. This includes commissioning Cheng Shiu University, Hsing Wu University, and Chaoyang University to establish overseas bases in Indonesia. Notably, the "2024 Taiwan INTENSE Program Education Exhibition" was held in Jakarta on March 19 and in Surabaya on March 21.

Yang Yu-hui, the Director-General of the Department of Technological and Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education, represented 18 Taiwanese universities participating in the exhibition. On the Indonesian side, more than 47 universities specializing in science and engineering joined the event. The overseas bases have signed agreements with 34 Indonesian schools, with all signatory schools actively participating and supporting the initiative. Additionally, agreements were simultaneously signed with three new Indonesian schools on the day of the event, bringing the total number of Indonesian schools involved in the program to 37.

Chen Zhong-zhi, the representative in Indonesia, emphasized how the International Industrial Talents Education Special Program actively assists Indonesian students in acquiring professional knowledge and workplace skills in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, finance, and semiconductors. Through collaborative efforts between the Taiwanese government, enterprises, and universities, Indonesian students are supported in pursuing opportunities to study, intern, and work in Taiwan. It is hoped that this education exhibition will foster closer educational cooperation and exchanges between Taiwan and Indonesia.

Indonesian students have a remarkable opportunity to access Taiwan's exceptional educational resources, state-of-the-art research facilities, and dynamic academic environment. Taiwan warmly welcomes Indonesian students with open arms, inviting them to explore the multitude of opportunities available and embark on a transformative educational journey. The "2024 Taiwan INTENSE Program Education Exhibition" symbolizes the strong educational ties between Taiwan and Indonesia. Through the support of Taiwanese institutions and the government, this initiative anticipates witnessing the growth and invaluable contributions of Indonesian talents, as they strive towards a brighter future for both nations.
