Taiwan and Indonesia Strengthen Healthcare Collaboration at 2024 Conference, Showcasing Smart Medical Innovations in Neurosurgery and Orthopedics

National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) and Far Eastern Memorial Hospital (FEMH) recently co-hosted the "2024 Taiwan Indonesia Smart Healthcare Conference" in Jakarta, showcasing the latest advancements in clinical smart healthcare for neurosurgery and orthopedics. The conference, organized as part of a series of events by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), attracted over 130 participants and featured in-depth discussions among medical experts from Taiwan and Indonesia.

Dr. Lu-Cheng Kuo, Deputy Director of the Center of Intelligent Healthcare NTUH, discussed the institution's progress in creating new medical tools and applications. Dr. Kuo explained that hospital doctors propose needs and the NTUH team develops tailored solutions. NTUH is also working on a medical-focused application similar to ChatGPT to assist doctors, especially those with less experience, in making more efficient diagnoses. One of the well-received technologies showcased was an AI-powered retinal scanning device for diabetes analysis. "This AI system helps less experienced internal medicine doctors easily see the connection between retinal images and diabetes," Dr. Kuo added.

"In the future, NTUH and FEMH will continue to support our medical partners in Indonesia, especially in promoting smart hospital development and improving medical care efficiency," said Prof. Dar-Ming Lai, Chief of the Division of Neurosurgery at NTUH. Prof. Chih-Hung Chang, Vice President of FEMH, explained that the hospital's four main focuses are advancing healthcare through technology, integrating systems to reduce human errors, and improving effectiveness and service quality. "With the help of technology, data errors can be minimized, and the integration of systems can be greatly improved," he said.

The conference was also attended by prominent figures such as Ali Ghufron Mukti, President Director of BPJS Kesehatan (Social Health Insurance Administration Body), and Setiaji, Head of the Digital Transformation Office at the Indonesian Ministry of Health. A representative from Alodokter, Indonesia's largest telemedicine platform, as well as experts from the University of Sumatra Utara, also participated in the discussions.

The conference has strengthened the medical ties between Taiwan and Indonesia, paving the way for a future of groundbreaking healthcare innovation and enhanced patient outcomes. NTUH and FEMH pledged to continue collaborating with Indonesian partners like Alodokter and the University of Sumatra Utara, harnessing cutting-edge technologies to revolutionize the delivery of world-class care. This event signals the start of an exciting new chapter, defined by the shared vision, and collaborative spirit of Taiwanese and Indonesian experts committed to shaping a healthcare landscape of excellence, efficiency, and boundless dynamism
