In a strategic initiative to strengthen ties between Taiwan and Indonesia and capitalize on the global tourism market, the Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) proudly inaugurated the Taiwan Tourism Services Office. The official ceremony took place at the vibrant GoWork Central Park in Jakarta on February 28, 2024.

Guided by the vision of expanding Taiwan's tourism presence in Indonesia and enhancing Taiwan's appeal to Indonesian travelers, Mr. Chou Ting Chang, Deputy Director General of the Tourism Administration, led the auspicious launch ceremony. The event witnessed the participation of key players in the travel industry, including the Taipei Economic and Trade Representative Office, leading airlines such as China Airlines and Eva Airways, Singapore Airlines, and enthusiastic local travel agents who delved into the promising tourism prospects Taiwan has to offer in 2024.

With a population exceeding 278.8 million, Indonesia stands as the largest country in ASEAN, boasting a vast economic scale and a rapidly growing demographic dividend. Chou Ting-chang emphasized Indonesia's immense potential for tourism development, particularly as one of Asia's most promising markets. The establishment of the Taiwan Tourism Services Office in Jakarta signifies a dedicated effort to directly cater to Indonesian tourists' needs and provide them with comprehensive information about Taiwan's diverse tourism offerings.

Minister Chen Sheng-peng highlighted the longstanding cooperation between Taiwan and Indonesia since the initiation of Taiwan's new southward policy in 2016. The annual reciprocal visits, reaching 201,950 in 2023, underscore the deepening of bilateral relations across various sectors.

The grand opening of the Taiwan Tourism Services Office in Jakarta was made even more special with the presence of Indonesian travel blogger, Kadek Arini. She shared her travel experiences in Taiwan, highlighting the captivating destinations and delicious culinary delights. Her insights showcased Taiwan's extraordinary nature as a tourist destination, emphasizing the charming streets of Jiufen, the enchanting views of Sun Moon Lake, and the vibrant atmosphere of Ximending. Through Arini's testimonial and the Taiwan Day promotional activities, the grand opening successfully highlighted the appeal of Taiwan to Indonesian tourists, encouraging them to explore and discover the country's hidden treasures and unforgettable experiences.

The Jakarta Service Office is poised to enhance communication efficiency for Indonesian travel agents, fostering collaboration in crafting innovative thematic itineraries and promoting Taiwan's unique attractions. With a keen eye on the upper-middle-class and MICE travel market, this strategic move is anticipated to elevate the Taiwan-Indonesia tourism exchange to unprecedented heights.

Looking ahead, the Taiwan Tourism Services Office in Jakarta plans to leverage its prime location in a renowned shopping mall to organize regular promotional activities. These initiatives aim to directly target the upper-middle-class consumer segment, actively promote the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS), and contribute to achieving the ambitious target of 12 million visitors to Taiwan by 2024.

In the words of Mr. Chou Ting Chang, “The establishment of this Jakarta Service Office allows for in-depth exchanges with the local industry, showcasing the characteristics of tourism in Taiwan. We aim to present a more tourist-friendly and localized Taiwan, leaving a lasting impression on industry stakeholders and the general public.”

In this grand venture, the Taiwan Tourism Services Office in Jakarta emerges not only as a gateway to the beauty of Taiwan but also as a testament to the enduring friendship between our nations. As we look forward to a future brimming with shared adventures, cultural discoveries, and strengthened ties, the Jakarta Service Office stands ready to be a catalyst for transformative travel experiences. The vibrant tapestry of Taiwan's landscapes, traditions, and warm hospitality eagerly awaits Indonesian visitors, inviting them to create memories that transcend borders.
